Because of the incident of needing a burying site, Abraham own a piece of land in the land that God had promised to him. The sons of Heth also agreed for him to do so. Finally, Abraham would own a piece of land in the Promised Land.

So Abraham agreed...the price that Ephron had quoted in the hearing of the sons of Heth v.16
as his property in the presence of the sons of Heth before all who entered the gate of Ephron’s city v.18
As the recipient of the Promised Land, Abraham paid the full price to purchase a piece of land publicly from the sons of Heth. In ch 15, God promised him that his descendants would come back in the future. In the meantime, Abraham had legal right to own at least a small part of it.
3. Summary and reflection: Abraham did not share in the fulfillment of the promise of the land, but he had at least a small part of it now. It is just like us, we may not see the fulfillment of all God's plan now, but we have taste of it, like the presence of God within us.
4. Questions

2) A foreign being respected by the local must have worked extra hard and earned this noble name.
3) Then it would be a legal possession of the Land.
4) He did not want people to said they made Abraham rich (14:23) or he did not want any dispute in the future about the ownership of the land.
