Psalm 33:12-17

 Overview (NET) Psalm 33. In this hymn the psalmist praises the Lord as the sovereign creator and just ruler of the world who protects and vindicates those who fear him.

1. Repeated:

A. 13 The LORD watches from heaven;

    he sees all people.

    14 From the place where he lives he looks carefully

    at all the earth’s inhabitants.

Not only God cares about the people, but he rules over them. The word for, "looks carefully"=gaze , providence (BDB). Also, His caring and ruling is over all the people He has created.

B.     15 He is the one who forms every human heart,

    and takes note of all their actions.

Not only He cares and rules us all, but He knows the deepest part of us and every things we have done. (EBC) He not only knows what happens but also understands what humans are doing and planning because he has created them (v. 15). Mankind is accountable to him, the Supreme Judge

C.     16 No king is delivered by his vast army;

    a warrior is not saved by his great might.

    17 A horse disappoints those who trust in it for victory

    despite its great strength, it cannot deliver.

Powerful military force cannot give us salvation and deliverance, but God can (v.18-20). Why? Because this world is created by God, not these forces. He has the ultimate power to give us the victory. The question is, do you fear Him and trust Him? (BKC) These verses develop the idea that the LORD is righteous, just (cf. v. 4a), and loyal (cf. v. 5b)

2. Summary and reflection

This is the Father's world. He created, cares, rules, and knows our deepest thoughts and actions. His is sovereign over all. If I ignore that and seek other helps, no matter how power these helps might look like, I will be disappointed and not got deliverance. Do I connect with the Father of this world? Do I fear and trust in Him?
