Ephesians 1:15-23

 1. For the faith and love of the Ephesians Christians Paul did not cease to give thanks in his prayer. But that is not all for a Christian's life. Therefore, Paul also prayed for them v.17 that they would have a growing knowledge of God v.17.

2. The word knowledge and know are 2 different words v.17, 18, but the meanings are similar. Therefore, v.18-23 is linked to what is the knowledge of God v.17? It is in 3 parts:

a. know what is the hope of his calling, w

b. know what is the wealth of his glorious inheritance in the saints,

c. know what is the incomparable greatness of his power toward us who believe

(NET) Thus, the prayer focuses on all three temporal aspects of our salvation as these are embedded in the genitives—the past (calling), the future (inheritance), and the present (power toward us who believe).

3. From v.19-23, Paul gave us the support or the revelation of His power (the resurrection, ascension and authority in heaven,  the Messiahship of Jesus Christ). Purpose:

a. This power is toward us v.19 therefore, we are not and shall not lack any power, no matter in our sanctification, or in overall coming any difficulties in life.

(NET) Eph 1:19–20. The point made in these verses is that the power required to live a life pleasing to God is the same power that raised Christ from the dead.

b. the revelation of His power-JC is the head of the church v.23. Therefore, the church is powerful with JC as our head. We are thus energized to accomplish His mission. (NET) The idea of all in all is either related to the universe (hence, he fills the whole universe entirely) or the church universal (hence, Christ fills the church entirely with his presence and power).
