Ob and In:
1. v.50 David prevailed over the Philistine with just the sling and the stone...David did not even have a sword in his hand...He grabbed Goliath’s sword, drew it from its sheath
First, David did not kill with human means, but with God. Only a sling and a stone were enough to be used by God, just as the 5 loaves and 2 fishes.
Second, the sword of Goliath was still in its sheath. Goliath thought that was not necessary to use his sword to take care of a young boy like David. However, he only saw the human David, not the divine help.
Finally, Goliath was killed by his own sword.
Reflection: Am I like Goliath who underestimate others? Do I not even bother to take my sword out of the sheath when I preparing the children's program?
2. v.52 Then the men of Israel and Judah charged forward, shouting a battle cry. They chased the Philistines to the valley and to the very gates of Ekron.
Israelites were completely changed after David killed Goliath. Perhaps, they also realized that David could not have killed Goliath without God's help. Claiming the promise of the Army of God, they charged forward until the enemies gates. David started to become the real leader of Israel from this moment on.
Reflection: What kind of leader I want to become? Can other people see how God is with me and will like to follow me?
