1 Samuel 17:32-37

 Ob and In:

1. David knew exactly who he is

a. After the failure of his own recommendation to go to fight Goliath v.32-33, David still insisted to go v.34. David knew himself very well.

b. Saul said David was only a boy and was no match to Goliath, but David disagreed. He was a shepherd of his father flock and the Father's flock as well v.34-37. Goliath was just like one of the bear and lion who tried to carry off the flock. David was determined to rescue even the sheep was in their mouth. v.35 or rose against him v.35.

2. David knew very well God was with him when he was doing His will

32 David said to Saul, “Don’t let anyone be discouraged.

36b For he has defied the armies of the living God.” 37 David went on to say, “The LORD who delivered me from the lion and the bear will also deliver me from the hand of this Philistine

(EBC) Knowing that the Lord is on his side, David offers to fight Goliath (v.32) in spite of the overwhelming odds against him (cf. Deut 20:1–4). His confident statement, “Let no one lose heart

(EBC) But Saul, unimpressed, insists that a fight between David and Goliath would be a mismatch (v.33): “You” (emphatic pronoun) are “only a boy,” while “he” (emphatic pronoun) has been a “fighting man” ever since his boyhood days...The odds are therefore much more even than either Saul or Goliath might imagine, especially when the divine element is added to the equation.

Reflection: It does not matter what other people think about me. What matters is Who is with me? Am I doing His will?

Do I see the people of God as my own? Will I eager to help God's people like helping my own flock?

What is my bear and lion experience which can help me to fight the Goliath?
