1 Samuel 16:11-14

 Ob and In:

1. David was not included when his father first met with Samuel. He was left to take care of the flock. It was clearly shown to them that whom they had considered unimportant was chosen by God.

13 So Samuel took the horn full of olive oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers

2. Did God say He did not look from outside? Why did the Scripture mentioned his appearance?

12b Now he was ruddy, with attractive eyes and a handsome appearance

3. The coming of the Spirit to David and the departure of the Spirit away from Saul. v.13, 14. Plus, an evil Spirit came to him.

14b an evil spirit from the LORD tormented him

(NET)  Or “an injurious spirit”; cf. NLT “a tormenting spirit.” The phrase need not refer to an evil, demonic spirit. The Hebrew word translated “evil” may refer to the character of the spirit or to its effect upon Saul. If the latter, another translation option might be “a mischief-making spirit.”

Reflection: Whether man sees me as important or not does not matter. God had chosen David even his own father did not see him as important. God will vindicate me just as Samuel anointed David in the presence of his brothers.
