5 but with Cain and his offering he was not pleased. So Cain became very angry, and his expression was downcast.
Adam and Eve ate the fruit from the tree of k/g/e because they did not want God to define good and evil for them. Instead, they wanted to define it and ate the fruit.
Now, their son did not like the respond of God to his offering and dare to be angry and with a downcast expression to God. This is not just a disobedience, but seeing themselves above God.
7b ...It desires to dominate you, but you must subdue it.”
God warned Cain about the dominating of sin and expected him to subdue his sin. Do man have the ability or potential to do that? To a certain extent, yes. Because the result of Cain of not subdue it was to kill his brother. Certainly, God did not expect all angry man to kill other people. We have certain ability to control ourselves, even not perfectly.
Reflection: Being in conflict between husband and wife is a curse and is expected. However, God warns me today about the dominating character of sin. I am expected to subdue it, especially with the life of God living in me now.
