Genesis 1:26-31 Children

Repeated words:

(1) image, likeness:

God created humankind different than other creatures. We are given a purpose. God is the Creator and He rules over all things He created, what He said will come true He named them. But now, He gave this rulership to mankind.

(2) Rule over:

God rules with not only His power, but also with His preferences ("good," or "separate"). Mankind, as His representative, need to be like Him.

(3) All the creatures:

"God blessed and said to human" is unique. For the animals, God blessed and said, but not said to them. Human is created to be able to communicate with God. After we know the blessings we need to carry them out. That is, be fruitful and multiply so that we can rule over every creature.

(4) Food

Why did God need to tell Adam and Eve what to eat? Not only food for human is ordained, but also food for the animals. Why? Obviously, types of food to eat is important to God.

Summary: On one hand, human's rulership was given because we are like God. On the other hand, the rulership was a result of our blessing of fruitfulness. Therefore, Adam and Eve needed to obey God in order to rule.

Reflection: What has God given to us today? What do we need to obey in order to live out what was given to us?

In order to be fruitful, God gave us the food. The food He gave us is good-plant and fruit. Animals were given just the green for food. Do I have a thankful heart to God?
