Observations/Interpretation:
(1) Where God lives among them, they cannot be defiled. When we sinned and needed to offer atonement. 5:1-4
Application: When I yield to the Holy Spirit to take control of my lives, what sins do I need to expel from my heart?
(2) The priests' function-
a. Offered atonement and received payment and offering people gave to the Lord. 5:5-10
b. Carry out the law 5:11-31. When husbands were suspicious of their wife who had defiled herself by adultery they sent their wife and offerings to the priest. After the priests offered, God would cause the women to show the "signs" in her body.
c. Offered purification and other offerings for those who defiled themselves during their Nazirite vow. 6:1-21
Application for a,b, and c: Israelites needed a priest because when they sinned they cannot come directly to the holy God. The restoration of the relationship is through the procedure God gave them and the priests God designated. My helpless states was well understood by God and He prepared for me. Why I cannot trust in Him wholeheartedly?
d. Blessed the Israelites with the blessings from God. 6:22-27
Application: Priests represented people and they also represented God. In the NT, Jesus is my Priest, and I am also called to be the priest. Do I bless other people with God's blessings? Am I willing to spend time and energy to others?
(3) Some people would vow to separate oneself to the LORD or consecrate to the LORD for a period of time 6:1-4. I learn the meaning of holiness/separation/ consecration through them: (a) it was shown through some behavioral changes: the abstaining from certain food, not shaving their hair, and no touching of the dead corpse 6:5-8. (b) Separation/consecration was stopped when they defiled themselves and they need to be purified and offered other offerings. 6:9-12.
