(1) v.22-26
Overview: The bread was a symbolism for Jesus' body which was broken for us v.22. The cup was a symbolism for Jesus' blood which was poured out for man 24.
Meaning: Jesus did not explain why the disciples needed His body, but He explained the function of the blood v.24, “This is my blood, the blood of the covenant, that is poured out for many." Both the covenant, the kingdom of God v.25 are mentioned in the Old Testament about Israel. As a matter of fact, the feast of Passover was also mentioned in the OT for Israel.
(BKC) Just as sacrificial blood ratified the Old (Mosaic) Covenant at Sinai (cf. Ex. 24:6–8), so Jesus’ blood shed at Golgotha inaugurated the New Covenant (Jer. 31:31–34). This promises forgiveness of sins and fellowship with God through the indwelling Spirit to those who come to God by faith in Jesus... The New Covenant is God’s new arrangement in dealing with people, based on Christ’s death (cf. Heb. 8:6–13). The spiritual blessings Israel expected God to grant in the last days are now mediated through Christ’s death to all who believe. The physical blessings promised to Israel, however, are not being fulfilled now. They will be fulfilled when Christ returns and establishes His millennial reign with Israel in her land.
Reflection: We are not Israelites, but thank God through believing we can have our sins forgiven (John 3:16). Jesus used the image of breaking to signify what His body would go through. We thank Him for we are blessed while He suffered. This is not about being equal. This is love.
(2) v.27-31
Repeated word:
all
14:27 Then Jesus said to them, “You will all fall away...
14:29 Peter said to him, “Even if they all fall away, I will not!”
v.31c And all of them said the same thing.
deny
v.30b you will deny me three times
v.31b “Even if I must die with you, I will never deny you.”
Reflection: Even Jesus told him specifically that he would deny Him, which means Peter would love himself more than he would love Jesus, Peter did not want to admit that. He thought he would rather die. That means, on one hand, Peter did not think he would be just an average disciple. He would be different from others. On the other hand, Peter thought Jesus was more important than his life.

We knew that he fell just as Jesus predicted. Peter overestimated for himself. However, do we have the heart of Peter? Do we love Jesus more than ourselves? Do we love Jesus even when others do not love Him?
