(1) 3 commands: Watch out v.9, Do you worry about what to speak v.11a, say whatever is given you at that time (by the Holy Spirit) v.11b.
(2) Repeated word:
a. Handed over v.9, 11, 12
Jesus not only told them what to do (watch out, do not worry, say what is given), He also described what would happen (being handed over). Finally, He did not hide the severity of the persecution. Perseverance in the face of opposition is needed.
b. You will stand before governors and kinds because of me, as a witness to them v.9b, the Gospel must be preached v.10, it is not you speaking but the Holy Spirit v.11, you will be hated by everyone because of my name v.13.
Who would like to endure all the persecution if it would be so bad? Jesus gave the reasons here: "because of me," and because of the Gospel. When His followers do that they would not be left alone. The Holy Spirit would give them what to say. When His followers kept their faith fully in this opposition then God would save them.
(3) Reflection
To know about their future is not just for curiosity or just for their heads up. Jesus wanted them to start watching out. Something they need to do right the way. We also know that there is an End of the world, but we do not know when. Therefore, we also need to start to watch out, too.
The reason for the persecution and perseverance was given to them. If they think that reason was not enough they would give up now. How about us? Is the Gospel, and Jesus something and Someone you want to live your life for?
Finally, God will be with them and have a close relationship with them. Are you looking for that? If yes, then when you go through these hardest times will also be your sweetest times.
