psalm 119:17-24

 Outline: (Kel)

          I.      The psalmist calls for God to enable him to discover even more wonderful things in his word so that he might be delivered and live as God intended (17–18).
II.      The psalmist attests that in his earthly sojourn he desperately needs God to reveal his will and way to him (19–20).
III.      Knowing that God destroys the arrogant, the psalmist prays for God to remove the reproach of the wicked from him, affirming in the meantime his delight in and direction from God’s word (21–24).

Focus:
119:19 I am like a foreigner in this land.
Do not hide your commands from me!
119:20 I desperately long to know
    your regulations at all times.

(NET) Resident aliens were especially vulnerable and in need of help. They needed to know the social and legal customs of the land to avoid getting into trouble. The translation (note the addition of “like”) assumes the psalmist is speaking metaphorically, not literally.

Note how the psalmist asked God to open his eyes so that he can see how marvelous is His words so that he may live by His words. He saw God's words as vital in living in this world. Just like a foreigner needs to know about the law of the land, the psalmist saw the same importance of God's words.

A godly worldview helps us to live a godly life.
