Mark 4:26-41

 (1) v.26-29 Two parallel worlds: The farmer who sowed the seed. He went to sleep and got up and did not know how the seed grows. All he knew was when the grain was ripe. He harvested them. The second world was the seed and the soil.

Meaning: It seemed like Jesus who was not around after He sowed the seed and He will be back. (BKC) Its emphasis is on growth under God’s initiative in the interim phase between the proclamation by Jesus (the lowly Sower) and His disciples and the ultimate manifestation of the kingdom by Jesus (the mighty Harvester)

(2) v.30-34 The amazing result of growing: the smallest seed of all the seeds when sown and grows becomes the greatest of all.

Meaning: (NET) The point of the parable seems to be that while the kingdom of God may appear to have insignificant and unnoticeable beginnings (i.e., in the ministry of Jesus), it will someday (i.e., at the second advent) be great and quite expansive.

Reflection: Both parables have a common point: Jesus will not be around and the Kingdom of God will grow. One day, Jesus will be back and harvest. Today, we may not see Jesus but we have faith that He will be back just like the farmer will send in the sickle and harvest v.29. Be ready for His coming. Everything we do today will be examined.
In the second parable we may overlook small thing like the seed, but we should not. With the growing process it will become big. We should not overlook Jesus. He is the King of the Kingdom of God. How we obey Him today matters.
