Mark 2:1-12

 (1) Who were in this passage?

  • Jesus was preaching the word to a large crowd
  • Some people bringing a paralytic. They have faith in Jesus and therefore they knew it was worth it to remove the roof of the house where Jesus was.
  • The paralytic, whose sins were forgiven by Jesus. In other words, he was a sinner.
  • The experts in the law. They thought Jesus was blaspheming and that thoughts were read by Jesus. After Jesus healed the paralytic he walked in front of them.
(2) Who was the main character? Whom do you identify with?
I think the main character is Jesus. He is both man and God. Therefore,  He has the authority to forgive sin. His power to heal the paralytic backed up His claim of being able to forgive sin.
I will identify with the paralytic. I will have confident that my sins are all forgiven because I can walk now. The picture of me changing position from lying to walking is a vivid picture of my sins being forgiven.

(3) Reflection: No one has such assurance of salvation except those who believe in Jesus. We have the proof given in Mark 2:1-12. We can live a new life without this doubt. Thank you Jesus.
