Psalm 98

Overview: (Kel-Ps) The psalmist calls upon all the people of the earth to sing a new song and all of nature to respond because the LORD has revealed his salvation and righteousness to the world by delivering his people Israel and will therefore come to judge the whole world with righteousness and equity.

Outline: (Kel-Ps)
          I.      The psalmist calls for a new song to be sung to the LORD because he has demonstrated his loyal love and faithfulness by saving Israel in the sight of all the nations (1–3).

II.      The psalmist calls upon all the people of the earth to rejoice enthusiastically before the LORD who is the king (4–6).

III.      The psalmist calls for all of nature to respond joyfully because the LORD is coming to make everything right (7–9).

Note: In v.1-2 and 9 God's deliverance of Israel demonstrated 4 things:  He is wonderful v.1a, He is powerful v.1b-2a, His justice v.2b and He is loyal and faithful to His people v.3a. Among them, His justice in deliverance is not easy to understand.  At the last part of the psalm v.7-9, the psalmist calls for joyful responses when the earth anticipates the justice of the Lord. Why? If I put everything together, the enemies of Israel suppressed them with injustice. Also at the end of the world this same group of enemies will do injustice to the whole earth. When the Lord delivered Israel in the past He has demonstrated justice. Again, at the End Time, when God wipes out the enemies we will see justice being served again.

Reflection: (1) Do you find your salvation wonderful? Do you see God's power in you in how He has saved you? Do you see the Creator's loyal and undeserving love to you in your salvation? (2) Are you pressed by injustice? Is the power of sin of the world surrounding you? The greatest injustice was not bearing by us, but by Jesus. We sinned, but He took our punishment (Isa 53:7-8).
