(1) Overview
(BKC) The psalmist acknowledged the goodness of God in restoring His people and forgiving their sins. He then prayed that the Lord would remove His wrath from His people. The psalmist’s confidence in the Lord came from God’s promise of salvation.

A. 85:4 Restore us, O God our deliverer!
Do not be displeased with us!
Do not be displeased with us!
Bestow on us your deliverance!
(BKC) The psalmist prayed that the Lord would again turn His wrath away and deliver them. He wanted the Lord to put away His displeasure, and not continue to be angry. Apparently the past restoration referred to in verses 1–3 inspired this prayer for another restoration. Revived, they would again be able to rejoice and experience His unfailing love (ḥeseḏ).
Reflection: In the history of Israel they experienced more than 1 time of being punished and restored again. Because of our sins believers today may also experience that. Just because they have tasted the goodness of God they wanted to return back to that state. Are we longing for that sweetness?
B. 85:8a I will listen to what God the LORD says.
(NET) Having asked for the Lord’s favor, the psalmist (who here represents the nation) anticipates a divine word of assurance.
85:10 Loyal love and faithfulness meet;
deliverance and peace greet each other with a kiss.
deliverance and peace greet each other with a kiss.
loyal love/kindness (BDB)= kindness, lovingkindness in condescending to the needs of his creatures
Reflection: One one hand, the author had faith in God and therefore he would anticipate an answer from God when he prayed. Do we ?
On the other hand, why would the author be so sure that he would get an answer? It is because God has loyal love to His people. He did not just love them, but He is loyal to them and to us. He did not change and continues to love us. Thank God and Praise Him!
