Exodus 40

 (1) 40:2 “On the first day of the first month you are to set up the tabernacle, the tent of meeting.

The first month of the year was counted when God was ready to send the 10th plague to Egypt. He instructed Moses to set up the passover meal and got ready to get out of Egypt.

12:1  The LORD said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt,12:2 “This month is to be your beginning of months; it will be your first month of the year.

Now, God wanted Moses to set up the tabernacle on the same date. What was the purpose? I think there was a link between their exodus and the beginning of their relationship with God or the beginning of their worship. How come?

40:3 You are to place the ark of the testimony in it and shield the ark with the special curtain.

When Israel left Egypt they were freed and they made a covenant with God.  In other words, at this time of the year Israel became a country. Their very existence was because of God and therefore they had a covenant with God to have Him as their God.

(2) 40:36 But when the cloud was lifted up from the tabernacle, the Israelites would set out on all their journeys; 40:37 but if the cloud was not lifted up, then they would not journey further until the day it was lifted up.40:38 For the cloud of the LORD was on the tabernacle by day, but fire would be on it at night, in plain view of all the house of Israel, throughout all their journeys.

When Moses finished the work v.33 the cloud and the glory of God was visibly seen. I think it is probably because Israel had kept their promise to worship God and now God would keep His promise in the covenant and became their guidance in their journey.
In other words, their ongoing relationship with God was expressed in their decision of their journey.

Reflection: From today's passage, the cloud/glory was in plain view of all the Israelites. They knew very clearly that God would guide them.

In NT, believers have established our relationship when we are saved. God also guides us in our everyday life. Although we cannot see the cloud/glory of God but we have the Holy Spirit Who guides us through all our decisions. Will you trust God to guide you today?
