(1) 38:21 This is the inventory of the tabernacle, the tabernacle of the testimony, which was counted by the order of Moses, being the work of the Levites under the direction of Ithamar, son of Aaron the priest.
The inventory of the materials was overseen by Moses, but counted by the Levites. And they worked under their director, Ithamar. Bezalel and Oholiab were the main makers, but they did not abuse the materials people gave. Multiple people were involved for the accountability.
Reflection: Today, in the church, multiple people were involved in counting the offerings. This helped to reduce the error, as well as, increase the accountability.
With our money we are very careful. How about our spiritual well being? Will you allow other people to keep watch for you? Do you have accountability partners in your spiritual growth?
(2)The inventory here was mainly for the 3 precious metals: gold, silver and bronze.
(BKC) The materials included a little over a ton of gold (38:24), almost four tons of silver (vv. 25–28), and about two and one-half tons of bronze...the richness of the metals signified to Israel the holiness, glory, and majesty of God who dwelt among them. His “house” suggested He was well able to provide lavishly for His own.
(3) For silver, part of them came from each person (20 years and older) v.26. That means, this tabernacle, was not a place of worship for only a certain group of people. It was for everyone.
Reflection: When I visited the famous catholic church or palace when I travelled I always thought of where the money came from. Were these magnificent buildings built because the king or the pope were corrupted and they got the money from the people?
Yes, the tabernacle was magnificent, but it was not stolen from the people. Over 600, 000 persons either donated or paid for it. Everyone contributed.
I thank God that He cares about His people and He did not pressure people to give.
