Proverbs 25

 25:4 Remove the dross from the silver,

    and material for the silversmith will emerge;
    25:5 remove the wicked from before the king,
    and his throne will be established in righteousness
The king needs to remove his wicked counselors before his court has only the righteous counselors and his rulership can remain in righteous. Think about friends around us. Do they give us good influence  and help us to grow in the LORD or the opposite? How about things that we do? Do those things need to be removed before we can walk in righteousness?

    25:6 Do not honor yourself before the king,
    and do not stand in the place of great men;
    25:7 for it is better for him to say to you, “Come up here,”
    than to put you lower before a prince,
    whom your eyes have seen.
Jesus gave a similar teaching about being invited to the banquet (Luke 14:7-10). His conclusion in Luke 14:11 is to teach us about being humble. I think both OT and NT has this teaching is because of the human nature. We dont like to be humble. We are the one who always honor ourselves and stand in the place of the great men.

This is a verse widely quoted,
    v.11 Like apples of gold in settings of silver,
    so is a word skillfully spoken
Today, I found the verse following is related,
v. 12     Like an earring of gold and an ornament of fine gold,
    so is a wise reprover to the ear of the one who listens
A skillfully spoken word is beautiful and valuable (v.11), but to whom do the word spoken to?
(NET) The “ear of the listener” refers to the obedient disciple, the one who complies with the reproof he hears.
A listener who listen to the wise is also important. He is as important as the wise who reproves him. When both are present they are like golden earring and golden ornament. How can we be a wise listener to God and to man? Being humble and we can listen.
