(1) Psalm 141:2 May you accept my prayer like incense,
my uplifted hands like the evening offering! The incense symbolizes the prayer. Perhaps God desires our prayer as much as people like the fragrance of incense.
(NET) The instructions for making it show that God wanted his people to make a place for prayer. The instructions for its use show that God expects that the requests of his people will be pleasing to him.
Reflection: Do we want to do things to please God? If yes, incense burning/prayer were prescribed by God.
(2) 30:6 “You are to put it in front of the curtain that is before the ark of the testimony (before the atonement lid that is over the testimony), where I will meet you. 30:7 Aaron is to burn sweet incense on it morning by morning; when he attends to the lamps he is to burn incense.
The burning of incense was made in a particular altar, in a particular place (before the ark, but on the other side of the curtain, where God meet with men), by a particular person (priest), and in the particular time (in the mornings and evenings when he attends the lamps). They were also instructed to do it regularly and continually v.8-10. Do not serve other forms of incense, and do not serve other offerings on the altar of incense v.9-10.
Reflection: If we apply this to our prayer life: we need to practice our prayer in a particular place, time, and pray regularly, and continually. When we pray we do not mix with doing other things.
