Exodus 29:36-46

(1)29:42 “This will be a regular burnt offering throughout your generations at the entrance of the tent of meeting before the LORD, where I will meet with you to speak to you there. 29:43 There I will meet with the Israelites, and it will be set apart as holy by my glory.

(NET) The tabernacle, as well as the priests and the altar, will be sanctified by the power of Yahweh’s presence. The reference here is to when Yahweh enters the sanctuary in all his glory (see Exod 40:34f.).

The burnt offering will set apart the tent, the place of worship. How? In v.42 the place of the burnt offering will be the place where God would meet with Israel and speak with them. The presence of the God was glorious and sanctified the place.

(2) The repeated phrase
"I will meet with you" v.42,43, "I will set apart as holy the tent..altar...Aaron and his sons." v.44, "I will reside" v.45, 46 " I will be their God," v.45, "I am the LORD their God." v.46

(NAC) Sixty-eight times in the Old Testament God told his people that he wanted them to “know that I am Yahweh.” This was a different concept from knowing that Yahweh existed; it was a sort of semantically “loaded” shorthand for the assertion: “Know that I, who created and control all things, and have all power, and have been providing all these supernatural blessings for you that you have been witnessing, am Yahweh—there is no other god doing these things but only me, Yahweh. Give up your polytheism, pantheism, and syncretism and believe that I am the only God and place your full faith in me, obeying my covenant.”

(3) Reflection: As believers of the NT we have more privileges than the Israelites. The Holy Spirit dwells in us. But, do we believe that God is with you? Do you believe that the God of the universal dwells inside of us? We have the power to overcome sin because of His dwelling. He will set us apart. Are we willing to give up our idols and only have Yahweh in our hearts?
