Exodus 26:7-14

 (1) Overview

(NET) there were two sets of curtains and two sets of coverings that went over the wood building to make the tabernacle or dwelling place. The curtains of fine linen described above could be seen only by the priests from inside. Above that was the curtain of goats’ hair. Then over that were the coverings, an inner covering of rams’ skins dyed red and an outer covering of hides of fine leather.

(2) Repeated word: covering
v.13b will hang over the sides of the tabernacle, on one side and the other side, to cover it.
26:14 “You are to make a covering for the tent out of ram skins dyed red and over that a covering of fine leather.

The fine linen curtain v.1-6 was full of the design of cherubim and reminded people of God's righteousness and His angels guarded the way to the tree of life. The goat hair curtain protected the fine linen curtain.

(BKC) They were longer than the inner curtains (45’ rather than 42’), so that they touched the ground on the tabernacle sides (v. 13).

Finally there were 2 more coverings of animal's skin/leather for additional protection against the weather.

Principle: The inner layer was protected and the outer layer was made to last.

Reflection: Do we protect the valuable resources that God gave us, e.g. our new building? Do we protect our building so that it will last longer?

(3) Out of the 4 layers of coverings the 1st layer (fine linen) could be seen from priests inside and the 4th layer(fine leather) could be seen from people outside. In other words, most part of the 2nd and 3rd layers were not seen by anyone. From v.7-13 God gave a detailed instruction of how the 2nd layer (goat hair) was made with almost the same details as the fine linen layer.
26:11 You are to make fifty bronze clasps and put the clasps into the loops and join the tent together so that it is a unit.

Although the clasps were not made of gold like the 1st layer, they were made of bronze. In a layer that no one would see it was still made of precious metal. How would the people feel who brought bronze to God to build the tabernacle? Using my bronze in a place that no one could see?

Reflection: How do we do with things that people can not see? Do we do a good job at work even no one would notice? Do we give God precious goods even no one would notice?
