(1) the table
The table was made with also the same requirement (wood covered with gold, with border, meant to be carried with the pole) of the ark and therefore this is also an important item in the sanctuary.
a. The utensils on top of it were used in pouring out offerings v.29.
(NET) This literally says, “which it may be poured out with them,” or “with which [libations] may be poured out.”
(
Merriam-Webster) libations=an act of pouring a liquid as a sacrifice
b. The second group of items on the table is the Bread of Presence.
(NET) The name basically means that the bread is to be set out in the presence of Yahweh... The bread here would be placed on the table as a symbol of the divine provision for the twelve tribes—continually, because they were to express their thanksgiving continually. Priests could eat the bread after certain times. Fresh bread would be put there regularly.
Reflection:
Note that the bread needed to be present to God continually. If the bread represents the thanksgiving of the 12 tribes then do we also give thanksgiving to the LORD continually?
2. The Lampstand (see the picture I've sent you in a separate email).
Observation: The purpose of the lampstand, "it will give light to the area in front of it." v.37
Principle:The light is always lit and reminds us that God is always there. There is no window and this light is the only light. It leads people to God John 8:12 -Jesus is the light of the world.
Observation:
The shape of the lampstand is very unique. Its structure followed a tree with branches, and flowers.
Principle: Jesus is also the light of life. The light of the world will become the light of your life when we follow Him John 8:12.
(3) The table and the lampstand were placed outside of the Holy of the Holies where the Ark was. In order words before the priest could approach the ark they needed to pass through the table and the lampstand.
Reflection: We can come to worship God was solely because the Light of Life has guided us to Him. In the tabernacle/OT, there is no explanation. In NT we now know that Jesus is the Light of Life.
