(1) 16:16 In a little while you will see me no longer; again after a little while, you will see me.”
(NET) refers to the postresurrection appearances of Jesus to the disciples
(2) 16:20 I tell you the solemn truth, you will weep and wail, but the world will rejoice; you will be sad, but your sadness will turn into joy. 16:21 When a woman gives birth, she has distress because her time has come, but when her child is born, she no longer remembers the suffering because of her joy that a human being has been born into the world.

(NET) The same will be true of the disciples, who after Jesus’ resurrection and reappearance to them will forget the anguish they suffered at his death on account of their joy.
(3) 16:23 At that time you will ask me nothing. I tell you the solemn truth, whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you.16:24 Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive it, so that your joy may be complete.
Why did Jesus turn the subject to prayer? I think the common word in the section above v.21-22 and this was "joy." Not only the disciples would be joyful when they saw the resurrected Jesus, but their joy would be completed when their prayer would be answered. When Jesus was resurrected and ascended back to heaven we can pray to the Father in His name and we will receive! In other words, when we received what we have prayed for we knew that Jesus had truly went back to heaven!
(4) V.25-33 was the last part of Jesus' speech to His disciples before His arrest. He spoke to them plainly.
16:28 I came from the Father and entered into the world, but in turn, I am leaving the world and going back to the Father.”
John 1:1-14 telling us that the Word is God and He came in the world. He is the Word Who became flesh.

Reflection: What is your joy level today? Do you want your joy be complete? Ask the Father in Jesus name.
