(1) Overview:
Jesus has loved us and the command is to remain there v.9. The way to remain in His love is to obey His commandments v.10. The commandment is to love one another to the point of laying down our life for the other v.12-13.
From v.14-15, Jesus explained a transition of relationship with His disciples . They would receive revelation v.15. However, I think in the conclusion v.16-17 Jesus included all the followers. Jesus repeated the promise: branches that remain in Jesus will bear fruit v.4-5,
(2) Special verse to me
15:11 I have told you these things so that my joy may be in you, and your joy may be complete.
Love one another to the point of laying down my own life will not be very easy. It involves sacrifice and pain. However, Jesus as the commandment followers of the Father has assured us that when He sees us doing this He would be joyful and we would be joyful also. Obedience brings joy and this kind of joy will be the complete kind of joy. In other words, we may have joy in other things, but until we have the commandment-following-joy our joy's collection will not be completed.
(3) What is our attitude to obey? Do we find joy in obeying Jesus' commandments? Have you experienced the complete joy when you laid down yourself to other believers? You may sacrifice something but you will gain this complete joy!
