John 6:28-59

 (1) The crowd were very interested in the food that remains to eternal life v.27. Therefore, they asked what was the condition to get that v.28, and Jesus answered was to believe in Him, Whom God sent.

6:30 So they said to him, “Then what miraculous sign will you perform, so that we may see it and believe you? What will you do? 6:31 Our ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, just as it is written, ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’ ”

2 responses from the crowd in v.30,31. The 2 answered from Jesus v.32-59.
a. Why should they believe in Jesus? v.30. Jesus answered them in v.32-48

b. In order for them to believe they suggested that Jesus gave them manna to eat like what Moses did v.31. Jesus answered them in v. why He chose not to do that. v.49-59

(2) v.32-48 Jesus said, " I am the bread of life."
The description of the kind of bread that Jesus was? true bread v.32, bread from heaven v.32, the bread of God, v.33, from heaven v.33, gives life to the world v.33, bread of life v.35, will never go hungry v.35.

Why was Jesus the bread? Just like the physical bread that people who eat them will sustain their lives Jeus is the bread and substan life and people will not be hungry again v.35.
What does not going hungry mean? If we look for an answer in v.36-40 you will see Jesus was talking about security of salvation for every single believer. That means, the not-hungry life was a life that will not die and that is secure.

Reflection: Do you know that your life is a no hungry life? It is a secure life, never will be sent away, no chance to be lost, but will be raised from the death at the last day. Nothing is more satisfying than security in eternity.
What makes a believer to go "hungry" or insecurity again? I guess when we look for some other sources for satisfaction. They are the "false bread," not the true one. How foolish we are.
Someone said we are like children who are playing with the sand in the beach. We are wasting all our effort to hold water in the little holes that we dig, but the holes will eventually all be collapsed. Why dont we look up to the big ocean next to us?

(3) 6:48 I am the bread of life.6:49 Your ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died.

Jesus responded to their request for manna and pointed out that the manna their ancestors ate did not bring eternal life. As a contrast, He brought eternal life because He came from heaven v.48-51, and because He gave up His flesh and blood for the believers v.52-59. Drinking and eating means the believers consume Jesus. We live because of Him v.57.

We live because of Jesus' death. We live because of the God Who came down from heaven gave His life for me. He wants to sustain more than my physical life, but He wants me to have eternal life.

Reflection: Do we value eternity like Jesus does? Jesus went out of His way to come and gave us the eternal and heavenly lifes. Do we value the lives that we have?  Whom shall we owe our lives to?
