John 6:16-27

 (1) v.16-21

Observation: There was no emotion recorded about the disciples when they faced the rough sea. They were frightened only when they saw Jesus walking on the lake. Their emotion was mentioned by Jesus who said, "“It is I. Do not be afraid.” v.20.

Interpretation:  "I am" was the name of God and repeated in the Gospel of John. This is a miracle only for His disciples. After the miracles of feeding the 5000 Jesus showed to them again that He is God.

Reflection: As we discussed yesterday, the feeding of 5000 was a test set up by Jesus to the disciples. Jesus had not stopped showing them that they should trust Him. He is divine. He is God. No need to be afraid whatever we face. It might be a dangerous storm at night when you are all alone. But we are never alone. Jesus was there with us.

(2) v.22-27
Observation: The crowd who witnessed the feeding of 5000 were very interested in the whereabouts of Jesus v.22-25. They followed Him eagerly v.24. Even Jesus commented on their zealous search for Him v.26.

Interpretation: Why were they so eager? 6:26 Jesus replied, “I tell you the solemn truth, you are looking for me not because you saw miraculous signs, but because you ate all the loaves of bread you wanted.
In other words, food drives people, but that was not the right motive. They missed the purpose of the sign.

Reflection: What drives us today? It is a very important question to Jesus. Our action are driven by our motives, but God does not just look at the right action. He cares about our right motives.
Do we miss the point when God did something miraculous for us? Do we love God more or do we love the thing that God gave us more?
