(1) v.19b For whatever the Father does, the Son does likewise.
3 things that the Father/Son do together in v.19-30: "giving life v.21,24-26," "judge v.22,27" (now) and "judge" (in the future) v..28-30.
These 3 things gave us the outline of this passage from v.19-30.
...The use of “show” or “reveal” twice in v. 20 is John’s way of indicating the intimate relation between the Father and Jesus. As God’s agent, Jesus received direct insight from the Father and acted in accordance with the Father’s wishes. The actions of Jesus, therefore, were the actions of the Father because in Jesus the Father was in fact acting.
(NET) What works does the Son do likewise? (1) Jesus grants life (just as the Father grants life) on the Sabbath. But as the Father gives physical life on the Sabbath, so the Son grants spiritual life (John 5:21; note the “greater things” mentioned in v. 20). [the context of v.24 the life Jesus grants is spiritual life)]. (2) Jesus judges (determines the destiny of people) on the Sabbath, just as the Father judges those who die on the Sabbath, because the Father has granted authority to the Son to judge (John 5:22–23). But this is not all. Not only has this power been granted to Jesus in the present; it will be his in the future as well. In v. 28 [because a time is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice] there is a reference not to spiritually dead (only) but also physically dead. At their resurrection they respond to the Son as well.
(2) "the Son sees the Father doing...the Son does likewise," "the Father loves the Son and shows Him everything He does." v.19-20
(NAC) The point is that the Son copied the Father. Paul employed a similar idea in the theme of imitation to suggest that Christians were to copy him and his model of authentic life (cf. Phil 3:17; 1 Cor 4:16) as he copied or imitated Christ (1 Cor 11:1).
“For” v.20... identifies the basis for the Son’s dependence, namely, “the Father loves the Son” (5:20).Reflection: Jesus shared the same authority as the Father, but He humbled Himself (Phil 2:8). He sees...He does likewise. How much more do we need to see the Father and the Son and do things.
On the other hand, we see the love between the Father and the Son. The Son follows the Father for the Father loves the Son. Do we love God? If yes, do we follow God?
Last, the action of Jesus reflects what the Father does. They are One. No inferiority should be imposed on Jesus just because He is the Son and the Perfect Follower. His humbleness should be praised and not be despised upon.
(3) The present transaction of life and death v.24-27
5:24 “I tell you the solemn truth, the one who hears my message and believes the one who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned, but has crossed over from death to life.
Note the tense for "has crossed over from death to life," is perfect tense. It is a done deal. The hearer and believer has eternal life now (in present tense) and does not have judgment/condemnation (present tense in Greek). In v.25, John explicitly said

5:25 I tell you the solemn truth, a time is coming—and is now here—when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.
The hearer of Jesus' message (v.24) and the hearer of His voice (v.25) was dead spiritually. They will hear and they will live. As a matter of fact, we will see in chapter 11, Lazarus heard the voice of Jesus and he came back to life from death. Jesus's ability to give spiritual life was no doubt because He could also give physical life. His ability to judge now was also undeniable because He will be the future judge at the Great White Throne.

Reflection: Thank God that Jesus is the Judge. Thank God that the Judge said, we were dead, but now we are alive! We have already passed! No more worry about our future.
