Overview:
(NET)The psalmist asks God to protect him from his dangerous enemies and then confidently affirms that God will destroy his enemies and demonstrate his justice in the sight of all observersObservations:
(1) About his enemies, David described them as evil v.2, their words were sharp and slanderous charge was powerful v.3, fearless v.4, and they boasted how they could hide snares v.5. Their snares were sophisticated v.6a and conceiving v.6b. They claimed that their inner thoughts cannot be discovered.
(NET) Heb “and the inner part of man, and a heart [is] deep.” The point seems to be that a man’s inner thoughts are incapable of being discovered. No one is a mind reader! Consequently the psalmist is vulnerable to his enemies’ well-disguised plots.
Reflections: From Ephesians 6:14-18, Scriptures encourage us to put on the armor of God. The attacks from Satan are real and sharp. Therefore, we need God's help. One of the things God can help us is through us to put on the armor of God.
6:11 Clothe yourselves with the full armor of God so that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.
How do I do in fastening the belt of truth around my waist? Putting on the breastplate of righteousness? Fitting my feet with the preparation that comes from the good news of peace? Taking up the shield of faith with which I can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one? etc.
(2) God will use the weapons of the enemies to hurt themselves.
In v.3-4, David described the enemies shooting:
"...shooting from ambush at the blameless, shooting at him suddenly and without fear."
Then in v.7, God would shoot the enemies and also He would do it suddenly like what they had done
"But God will shoot at them; suddenly they will be wounded by an arrow. Their slander will bring about their demise v.7-8a"
People will know that the retaliation was done by God v.9. The morally upright will boast because God has helped them v.10.
Reflections: No matter how strong and smart our enemies are God is able to take care of them. He defends His own people.
On the other hand, we should be careful with our own words, too. Our words can be as sharp as swords sometimes. Lately, I spoke up during the church meeting carelessly. God reminds me that something I said was not true.
May we pray for each other and be careful with our words.
