Judgesv3:12-31

 3:12-31

Observation:

(1) In 3:9 the first Judge was Othniel son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother. Caleb was well known for his faith in God and he attacked the Canaanites even when he was old Joshua 14:10-12, Judges 1:20.

The 2nd judge, Ehud, was a left-handed man.

(NET) See Judg 20:16, where 700 Benjaminites are described in this way. Perhaps the Benjaminites purposely trained several of their young men to be left-handed warriors by restricting the use of the right hand from an early age so the left hand would become dominant. Left-handed men would have a distinct military advantage, especially when attacking city gates.

Both judges were capable man or related to capable man.

(2) When we are in trouble we often focus on the problem. However, in this passage God was the One who gave them the problem.

3:12 The Israelites again did evil in the LORD’s sight. The LORD gave King Eglon of Moab control over Israel because they had done evil in the LORD’s sight

God raised the Moabite king to give them hardship. If Israelites only asked God to take away the Moabites king that was not the center of the issues. Instead, Israelites cried out for the LORD. God wants them to change their attention from the idols to Himself.

(3) God is capable to help them

3:15 When the Israelites cried out for help to the LORD, he raised up a deliverer for them...

The way God helped them is through "raised up a delieverer for them."

(BDB) raise up = bring on the scene, sons in place of fathers...judges, king, prophet, priest, shepherds, etc.

In other words, God brought the capable leaders among Israel when they cried on him.

Reflections:

God wants us to trust Him and call on to Him when we have problem. Have we let other thing/people to steal our attention? Do we cry out to God when we have problem?

Let us also pray for capable leaders to lead us in this pandemic.
