Do you remember the lady of wisdom in Proverbs 31? She works very hard. Same as Ruth.
1 She worked from the morning and only took a short break v.7
2 Being a beggar she was supposed to switch to another field after a while, (but Boaz told her she did not need to do that v.8)
3 Again being a beggar one might got all kinds of bad treatment from the field workers v.9
4 Finally, it was a physically demanding job and under the hot sun. Even you were thirsty you might not allowed to drink water from the field (But Boaz allowed her to do that v.9).
Do you work hard in your job? In your family?
Ruth's life was tough. Boaz was gracious to her. Not only to her, Boaz greeted the harvesters, "May the LORD be with you." v.4. Can we be gracious to other people? Even to those who work under you? Or to your children?
Of course, this is the beginning of their love story. Boaz asked the servant in charge, "To whom does this young woman belong?” see NET notes, "In this patriarchal culture Ruth would “belong” to either her father (if unmarried) or her husband (if married)." Boaz was eager to know right the way if Ruth is single or married. The servant does not give a straight forward yes-on-no answer, instead he said, “She’s the young Moabite woman who came back with Naomi from the region of Moab." Then he goes on to explain Ruth's hard-working. In other words, what keeps the interest of Boaz towards Ruth was her good character. This is what Proverbs 31:30 is about. 艷麗是虛假的,美容是虛浮的;惟敬畏耶和華的婦女必得稱讚
