psalm 40

Overview: (NET) The psalmist combines a song of thanksgiving for a recent act of divine deliverance (vv. 1–11) with a confident petition for renewed divine intervention (vv. 12–17).

Repeated phrase: "he turned toward me and heard my cry for help" v.1, "He lifted me out...He place my feet on a rock...gave me secure " v.2, "what God has done," v.3, "you have accomplished...you have done amazing things" v.5.
As a result, "David responded to the truth in verse 6 by yielding his life to do God’s will. He presented himself willingly to the Lord, received direction from the book (the scroll), and expressed his desire to do the will of God. These verses present a marvelous example of what is involved in dedicating oneself to God’s will in accordance with His Word...in Hebrews 10:5–7 where the writer contrasted Christ’s perfect obedience with the insufficiency of the Mosaic sacrifices." (Ross)

Not only was David willing to sacrifice himself, but the past experience also helps when he faced dangers again v.12-17.

Reflection: Let's think for a minute for what has God done in the past to help us? When you cried out to help, God did helped you. Do you remember? Probably all of us has experienced that. However, do we present ourselves to God like David did? Do we have perfect obedience to Him like Christ did? Let our thanksgiving to God be not just a lip service but be our dedication and obedience.
