C. Prayer for Deliverance (vv. 7–8)
A′. Silence (v. 9)
B′. Prayer for Divine Sustenance (vv. 10–11)
C′. Prayer for Deliverance (vv. 12–13)
Repeated theme: Watch what I say, do not sin with my tongue, muzzle over my mouth v.1, stone silent v.2, silent and cannot open my mouth v.9.
While David tried not to say anything but inside he felt the frustration and anxiety v.2-3 as he was disciplined by the God v.10-11. He did prayed to God and asked for deliverance, so, his silence is only before the man.
NET, The psalmist wanted to voice a lament to the LORD (see vv. 4–6), but he hesitated to do so in the presence of evil men, for such words might be sinful if they gave the wicked an occasion to insult God.
Can we keep our silent while we feel the pain given by God so that the wicked will not use the opportunity to insult God? I can see of David's love to God. Even in the time he receive the suffering given by God his loyalty to God did not change.
See 2 Sam 6:5-14, David did experience the cursing from a person, but he did not say anything back because he knew that it is from God.
Another person in the bible, Job also showed this character:
Job 2:10 約伯卻對她說:「你說話像愚頑的婦人一樣。噯!難道我們從上帝手裏得福,不也受禍嗎?」在這一切的事上約伯並不以口犯罪
Reflection: Do we love God even in the midst of His discipline? We cry out only to God and ask for His deliverance, but we do not let other to insult His name.
