Psalm 38

Overview: NET, The author asks the Lord to deliver him from his enemies. He confesses his sin and recognizes that the crisis he faces is the result of divine discipline. Yet he begs the Lord not to reject him. #1 v.1-11 Pain as a result of sin David was very clear that God has His hand over him because of his sin v.1-3. He felt like the water is over his head or a heavy load and too much to bear v.4. The physical pain also comes with humiliation, mourning, shame, and anxious v.6-10. #2 v.12-17 Danger comes from his enemies Because of his condition David's enemies saw that as an opportunity to seek his life v.12. 38:17 For I am about to stumble, and I am in constant pain In other words, pain #2 is because of pain #1. David knew exactly how to take care of the problem from the root. That's why he prayed 38:18 Yes, I confess my wrongdoing, and I am concerned about my sins. 38:21 Do not abandon me, O LORD! My God, do not remain far away from me! 38:22 Hurry and help me, O Lord, my deliverer! He needed to confess his sins before his deliverance. Reflection: Note the word that he used in v.18, David was concerned about his sin. The word for "concerned" means be anxious or fear. I think we all fear or be anxious about pain or suffering from sickness. Most people keep ourselves healthy and thought that we may suffer less when we got old healthy. We have great fear or respect for health. However, David told us that we need to go down to the root problem. We need to anxious about our sins because that is the root problem. I prayed God to forgive me for fearing of pain instead of fearing Him. Audrey
