Psalm 37

Overview: NET, The psalmist urges his audience not to envy the wicked, but to trust in and obey the Lord, for he will destroy sinners and preserve the godly. When the smoke of judgment clears, the wicked will be gone, but the godly will remain and inherit God’s promised blessings. The psalm is an acrostic; every other verse begins with a successive letter of the Hebrew alphabet. Repeated phrase: 1. Do not fret over the success of the sinner v.1,7,8. They will be wiped out/disappear/gone/go up in smoke/disappeared/totally destroyed v.9 10, 20, 22, 36,38. God sustains the godly and they possess a permanent inheritance v.17,18, 27,28,29. 2. What is special in this psalm is that the truth in #1 does not seem like to happen at some special moment in our lives. The godly person may slip v.24. At those moments, God seems not to hold His promise. v. 24 Even if he trips, he will not fall headlong, for the LORD holds his hand. We may trip, but God will not let the godly fall. We will still face danger and even got hurt, but we will not be destroyed. In what way He holds our hand? v.31 The law of their God controls their thinking; their feet do not slip. When the law controls our thinking then we will not slip. God prevents the godly to fall by His law controlling our thinking. Let's not underestimate the importance of reading God's words every day. It is vital. Not only reading, but internalize them, which means meditating and thinking how to apply them. Let the Word of God "controls our thinking." Finally, we need to ask help from the Holy Spirit to live it out in our lives. Encourage each other in Christ to live it out. Held each other accountable. Then our feet will not slip. Audrey
