Psalm 32

Overview: NET, The psalmist recalls the agony he experienced prior to confessing his sins and affirms that true happiness comes when one’s sins are forgiven. He then urges others not to be stubborn, but to turn to God while forgiveness is available, for God extends his mercy to the repentant, while the wicked experience nothing but sorrow.

Repeated words:
How blessed v.1,2,
shouts of joy from...deliverance v.7,
Rejoice in the LORD, be happy, shout of joy v.11.
(opposite meaning: groaned in pain all day long v.3).

The happiness comes from 2 sources:
1. the forgiveness of sin while pain comes from the refusal to do that. v.3, NET “my bones became brittle.” The psalmist pictures himself as aging and growing physically weak. Trying to cover up his sin brought severe physical consequences. David encourages the faithful followers to confess urgently v.6. For this reason every one of your faithful followers should pray to you while there is a window of opportunity.
2. Certainly when the surging water rises, it will not reach them. This is the second reason for the happiness. When we are delivered from danger.

But there is more, what is the relationship between reason #1 and 2? In the presence of surging water you need the deliverance from the LORD as soon as possible. If you do not confess your sins you will not be saved! In other words, we do not just need to confess our sins, but we need to do it as soon as possible because we do not know how much time we have left

Reflection: Today, our church will have the fasting prayer meeting at 9-10am. I think it is a good time for me to search our hearts and confess me sins. v.2 How blessed is the one whose wrongdoing the LORD does not punish, in whose spirit there is no deceit NET, the psalmist refers to one who refuses to deny or hide his sin, but instead honestly confesses it to God. I pray that the Holy Spirit will guide me to not to deny or hide my sin, but instead honestly confess it to God.
