Psalm 28

Overview NET, 28. The author looks to the Lord for vindication, asks that the wicked be repaid in full for their evil deeds, and affirms his confidence that the Lord will protect his own. Structure: (VanGemeren) The structure of Psalm 28 follows the main structural division according to genre: lament (vv. 1–5) and thanksgiving (vv. 6–9). Details: v.1-3 David asked God not to ignore him. He felt he was going to die with those who behave wickedly. 28:1 To you, O LORD, I cry out! My protector, do not ignore me! If you do not respond to me, I will join those who are descending into the grave. 28:2 Hear my plea for mercy when I cry out to you for help, when I lift my hands toward your holy temple! 28:3 Do not drag me away with evil men, v.4-5 the wickedly deserved to be punished v.4 Pay them back for their evil deeds! Pay them back... Punish them! v.6-7 The LORD has heard David and protects Him. David wants to praise and sing in gratitude. ***v.8-9 The covenant God distinguished His own people, Hiw chosen king, His nation that belongs to Him with those who are not. He strengthened, protected and delivered them. The Psalm ends in a prayer: v.9b Care for them like a shepherd and carry them in your arms at all times! Reflection: We can also cry out to God to separate us from the falling world. When everyone facing the punish we plead for God's mercy and delivers us from the punishments because we are His people.
