Psalm 25

Overview: NET, The psalmist asks for divine protection, guidance and forgiveness as he affirms his loyalty to and trust in the Lord. This psalm is an acrostic; every verse begins with a successive letter of the Hebrew alphabet v.1-3 expression of trust in the LORD in the war with the enemies. As a result of this, God has delivered this person. What is the proper response when God has delivered you? v.4-5 Ask God to teach us His way. v.6-8 This is not a exchange of favor. We could be delivered is due to His faithfulness, but also because of His compassion and favor. God shows His favor in the forgiveness of our sins and this theme is repeated in this Psalm in v.7, 11, v.7 Do not hold against me the sins of my youth or my rebellious acts! NET, That is, the sins characteristic of youths, who lack moral discretion and wisdom. v.11 For the sake of your reputation, O LORD, forgive my sin, because it is great. NET, “name.” By forgiving the sinful psalmist, the LORD’s reputation as a merciful God will be enhanced. NET, Forgive my sin, because it is great. The psalmist readily admits his desperate need for forgiveness. v.18 See my pain and suffering! Forgive all my sins! Reflection: The phrases, "sins of my youth, rebellion sins, the greatness of my sin, the totality of all my sins" compose the lyrics of this songs. It reminds me over and over about myself and my life. I need God desperately. When we ask God to deliver us from the pandemic we shall learn from David in how he asked God for delivery from his enemies.
