NET, The people pray for the king’s success in battle. When the king declares his assurance that the Lord will answer the people’s prayer, they affirm their confidence in God’s enablement.
v.1-5 all starts with the phrase, "May the Lord/May He answer you/make you secure/help you/give you support/accept your offerings/grant your requests.
Especially in v.4-5 all the requests are similar, the people ask God to grant the success of the plan of the king in the battle.
20:4 May he grant your heart’s desire;
may he bring all your plans to pass!
20:5 Then we will shout for joy over your victory;
we will rejoice in the name of our God!
May the LORD grant all your requests!
NET, "may he give to you according to your heart.” This probably refers to the king’s prayer for protection and victory in battle.
America is in battle right now. You may or may not like the decisions of our leaders, but have you prayed for them? The people of Israel were very bold and asked God to grant the success of the leader, no matter if they personally like the plan of the leader or not. It was because they know the success of the leader mean their victory. We need to pray for the leaders of our country as well.
v.6-9 is a turn of tone from making requests to having confidence. "Now I am sure that the LORD will deliver... he will intervene...v.6" "They (the enemies) will fall down, but we will stand firm...v.8" "The LORD will deliver...he will answer us....v.9" Why? 1. They are His chosen people and king v.6 and they call to Him for help v.9, but the key is in v.7,
Some trust in chariots and others in horses,
but we depend on the LORD our God.
Chariots and horses are the top notch weapons in the ancient wars. That's why the enemies troop put their trust in those, but God was the top notch weapon to Israel. When they call to him for help He will deliver them with His mighty power!
God spares Minnesota to have relative safety comparing with other cities in America for a purpose. We are their support. Shall we keep America in our prayer? Pray that we and other American will trust in God and we will confess and turn back to Him. Pray that God will hear our prayers because we depend on Him, not depending the top notch medicine, experts, or any other human efforts (I do not say that we dont need these things and people).
