Psalm 17

Psalm 17. The psalmist asks God to intervene on his behalf because his life is threatened by dangerous enemies. He appeals to divine justice, for he is certain of his own innocence. Because he is innocent, he expects to encounter God and receive an assuring word. v.1-5 David asked God to be the judge and examined him. He was sure that God found no sin. It was because he had followed God's command. v.6-9 David was so sure that God would saved him because He was the Savior for those who asked for protection. NET, "Seeking his protection presupposes and even demonstrates the subject’s loyalty to the Lord. In the psalms those who “take shelter” in the Lord are contrasted with the wicked and equated with those who love, fear and serve the Lord." v.10-13 Note, "Hide me in..." v.8, "protect me from...my enemies who crowd around me" v.9, "They surround me" v.11. The location is the key. From those who surround him, David asked to be in the protection of the God. Just like the pandemic now, the dangerous virus is around us, surrounding us. What we shall ask for is to be delivered from this location and moved to be under the shadow of God's wings. That's the safest place. But how to get under God's wings? v.1-5 be sure that we have followed not the world, but followed God's command. v.6-9 Be loyal to the LORD and seek His protection. We will be in the safest place when we follow the will of God. (ESV) v.14 from men by your hand, O LORD, from men of the world whose portion is in this life. You fill their womb with treasure; they are satisfied with children, and they leave their abundance to their infants. 15 As for me, I shall behold your face in righteousness; when I awake, I shall be satisfied with your likeness. They enjoyed material riches, and leaving their wealth to their children while David is satisfied with the presence of God. May we all enjoyed the presence of God even we seem to have lacking in the physical surrounding. Audrey
