psalm 16

(NET) The psalmist seeks divine protection because he has remained loyal to God. He praises God for his rich blessings, and is confident God will vindicate him and deliver him from death.
v.1-2 plead for protection and confess that He is the ONLY source of well-being.
v.3-4 David confirmed that being the people of God was what he wanted most. He did not want to belong to any other people who worship other gods.
v.5-6 While he was just asking for protection in v.5 He was so sure that God gives him stability, prosperity and security. Financially he knew that he would be satisfied. Even thought they reflected the extraordinary faith, but v.1-6 seems very similar to other psalms from David.

What caught my attention is v.7. What kind of praising of the LORD will make a person reflects and learns at night? Definitely not just a lip service type of praising. Something that God did which when  you think more about it, more you will think that He is awesome and great.
(NET), In the quiet darkness the LORD speaks to his inner being, as it were, and enables him to grow in moral understanding.
Do you have any experience like that to share?

v.7-9 This kind of reflection at night helped David to trust God more. 16:9 So my heart rejoices and I am happy; My life is safe.
Reflection: Will you have the same attitude during the pandemic? 3000+ Americans died in just 1 day. We are so close to death. Yet, God is our stability, prosperity, and security. If God does not allow, nothing will happen to us. \

16:10 You will not abandon me to Sheol; you will not allow your faithful follower to see the Pit. 16:11 You lead me in the path of life; I experience absolute joy in your presence; you always give me sheer delight.
These 2 verses did happened when David facing his enemies, ie, he was not killed by his enemies. He died at his old age. However, he did died eventually. These 2 verses found the fulfillment in Jesus Christ.
(NET), Peter goes on to argue that David, being a prophet, foresaw future events and spoke of Jesus’ resurrection from the dead (Acts 2:30–33) However, I believed David did experienced the absolute joy and sheer delight in v.11.

Is your joy absolute and sheer? That means it is untouchable. No matter what happens you can still be joyful because the LORD gave that to you. Yesterday, I asked if you have known any loyal followers of God-the one who fears the LORD respects his sovereignty and obeys his commandments. They could helped you to live a blameless life. I thought about 2 persons: one of them is my counselor in youth fellowship and the other is a retired foreign missionary. The former person taught me to fear God by tirelessly studied the Bible. No matter how much his wife wants him to have more rest he burned like a candle on both ends to share the Words of God. The latter one does not give up sharing the Gospel and talks to stranger no matter where she goes. Her live is laser sharp in preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. May they also be your inspiration.
