Psalm 14

Overview: NET, The psalmist observes that the human race is morally corrupt. Evildoers oppress God’s people, but the psalmist is confident of God’s protection and anticipates a day when God will vindicate Israel.
In v.1-3 David described the human race (sons of man) as the atheists and they are morally corrupt.
(NET) [There is no God].” The statement is probably not a philosophical assertion that God does not exist, but rather a confident affirmation that God is unconcerned about how men live morally and ethically (see Ps 10:4, 11).
In v.4-7 David told the reader why they are so wicked. It was because they oppressed his people, who is Israel. v.4,7. v.4 All those who behave wickedly do not understand— those who devour my people as if they were eating bread, and do not call out to the LORD. The worst part of the sons of man is not that they are wicked, but they oppressed Israel as if God is not there. They should have known that God is the shelter of Israel v.6. When they oppressed God's people this is a challenge directed to God. v.6 14:6 You want to humiliate the oppressed, even though the LORD is their shelter.

In the New Testament we, the Christian, is God's people. When Paul persecuted Christian and met Jesus on the Road of Damascus. Jesus said to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?” Acts 9:4. Jesus had already died, resurrected and ascended to heaven how could Paul persecuted Him? It was because Jesus identified the church with Himself. Whoever persecuted the church did actually persecuted Jesus.

Reflection: Thank God for loving His people and identified with us. We are not afraid for anyone because He is our protection.
