Psalm 11

Overview: NET, The psalmist rejects the advice to flee from his dangerous enemies. Instead he affirms his confidence in God’s just character and calls down judgment on evildoers.

(1) v.1-3 NET, The quotation of the advisers’ words was in v.1c-3. They advise the psalmist to flee because the enemy is poised to launch a deadly attack. The arrows will shoot in the darkness and you cannot protect yourself v.2. If your foundations are destroyed there is no chance to accomplish anything v.3.
What is the mentality of the adviser? The focus is on the danger of the wicked. It may be real, but they have forgotten one main character.

 (2) v.4-7 v. 4 The LORD is in his holy temple; the LORD’s throne is in heaven.
His eyes watch; his eyes examine all people. NET, The anthropomorphic language draws attention to God’s awareness of and interest in the situation on earth. Though the enemies are hidden by the darkness (v. 2), the Lord sees all. It is not the godly who can sees in the dark and protect themselves. It is God whose eyes can watch over us. Yes, we are weak but we rely on the One Who is strong.
His eyes also examine all people.
God can protect, but are you the godly whom He will protect? When He examines you will He find that you are wicked or godly? The difference is vast. 11:5 The LORD approves of the godly, but he hates the wicked and those who love to do violence. 11:6 May the LORD rain down burning coals and brimstone on the wicked! A whirlwind is what they deserve! 11:7 Certainly the LORD is just; he rewards godly deeds; the upright will experience his favor. The coals and brimstone was pouring in the Sodom and Gomorrah (Gen 19:24) and will rain in the Gog Eze 38:22 (the city that against Israel in the End Time).

Reflection: I dont know if the pandemic now is part of the judgment that God brought to the wicked. But I know that when End Time comes the world will become more devastating than today. The anger of God will be great. The only way to avoid being under the anger of God is to believe in Jesus and ask for His forgiveness. As a believers, I will examine myself and confess my sin and bring my love ones to Christ.
