Eph 5:22-33
1. Before we can be a good wife/husband we need to be a good Christian.
Repeated phrase can be found almost in every verse "as to the Lord, as also Christ is the head of the church, as the church submits to Christ, just as Christ loved the church..." Question to think about: 5:24 But as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. Have I submitted to Christ in everything? How am I doing? If I dont even submit to Christ in everything then I certainly cannot do it to my husband. Submit means respect him as having authority over me.
2. Cleansing
The repeated idea from v.26-27 is, "sanctify (set apart), cleansing, washing f the water, without stain or wrinkle, or any blemish." By the word. And the result is glorious, holy and blameless. Everything is washed away, but the word remained. Have our old habits, old thinking, and words in our mouth be washed?
3. Everything/whole person
Another repeated idea is, "Christ gave himself for us," v.25, 27. This is how much He loves us and what the husband should follow. Therefore, the submission is voluntary. We are compelled to love Him back and follow our husbands.
