Are we not all longing for the achievements in 1 Cor 13:1-3? Speak in tongue builds up ourselves. Prophesying benefits the church. Faith that can move mountain shows our trust in God. Giving away our possession is an act of love (but it isn’t necessary motivated by love). But without love, we are meaningless (1 Cor 13:1), worthless (1 Cor 13:2) and profitless (1 Cor 13:3).
There are times that I want things to be done on time. But if I forget about the people, these accomplishments will be meaningless, worthless and profitless.

Love is more than serving others, but also serving by God (1 Cor 13:1). Love is more than serving by God, but doing it for others' good (1 Cor 13:2). Love is more than doing something for others (we often thing love is sacrifice), but also a character (1 Cor 13:3). What are the characters of love? Think about the division in the Corinthian church. Love is patient and kind... (1 Cor 13:4). The characters of love retain the righteousness of God (love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth 1 Cor 13:6). Therefore, when we have the character of love we can serve God with the gifts that He bestowed on us.
