Ro 7:4-6 is the key to understand this chapter. Our sanctification is not based on legalism but by the guidance of the Holy Spirit (我们服事主,要按著心灵的新样,不按著仪文的旧样。).
Consider my decision of stop watching Korean drama. I made this decision not because I violate God’s law. In fact, I was able to watch Korean drama with self-control for the past few days. Neither because I try to please God by self denial following 服从那「不可拿、不可尝、不可摸」等类的规条 (Col 2:20). Then, why quit? Because the Holy Spirit reminds me. Since I die with Christ to sin and to this world, why should look for fulfillment in this world? What about my commitment to spend more personal time with God?
When I first had this idea quit watching Korean drama, I found it difficult to commit. But when I let the guidance of the Holy Spirit to challenge me instead of ignoring it, God gives me strength to sustain this decision.
