Passages like Ro 2:1-2 and Matthew 7:1-2 give many Christians an impression that they should not judge. I think they miss the point because there are passages like 1 Cor 5:12 ask us to judge. So, what is the point in Ro 2? It is not to have a double standard – one for others and one for yourself. A double standard will deceive us to make us feel we can escape from God’s judgment. Paul goes on to explain even you are a moral person but you won’t be able to meet God’s standard by your own effort.
As a pastor and teacher, Ro 2:21-23 gives me a warning – Am I teach one thing and practice another thing? May God give us strength to walk according to His will.
