1 Cor 9

If you want to be a winner, you must be single-minded. This is what Paul means in 1 Cor 9:25-27. He gives up his right of being supported by the Corinthian church so that people can hear the gospel freely and he can preach the gospel freely (1 Cor 9:18-19). (There may be enemies of Paul questioning Paul’s apostleship because he is a tentmaker.)
Are we a single-minded person in the Lord’s business? A single-minded person must be self-control and has courage. Self-control calls upon us to defer the gratification of immediate desires for the sake of godly living as a whole. Courage enjoins us to take and suffer certain immediate pains for the sake of godly living as a whole. Don’t let worldliness cling to us.
