Can we sue other people? In the Sunday school class, we have talked about how to determine a universal principle from the text. This issue is a peripheral teaching, morally neutral issue (because if it is a moral issue, it will be wrong even we seek judge within the church). As far as I know, this is the only place in the NT bible talking about lawsuit. There is a today-equivalent situation (i.e. lawsuit) but what kind of lawsuit Paul is talking about? It is more likely is a civil lawsuit (1 Cor 6:7-8) than a criminal lawsuit. And it is between two Christians. The universal principle is for the sake of a good Christian testimony, we should settle our dispute within the church instead of before the court. It would be better to be defrauded than to ruin our testimony. And God will judge those who sin.
As you can see, our Christian reputation is a serious matter in the Bible.
