Mind your own business is the essence of modern personal relationship. However, it should be different in a church. Why should we mourn and feel shameful (1 Cor 5:2) when there is a church member commits adultery? Because we are one body. His sin will spread and affect others if we do nothing (1 Cor 5:6). By disciplining a church member, we save him from future judgment (1 Cor 5:5).
Have you notice that church discipline is the authority of the congregation (i.e. the church), not the pastor? Though Paul is their pastor, he does not cast out this member by his authority but up to the church to exercise this power (1 Cor 5:13).
